What Photography Means to Me: In this article, I recount my journey and how photography transformed my life. Discover my highs and lows and the effort it took to reach my current place.
My journey into photography began when I was very young. I was in grade four, attending school like any other child my age. My father worked in a film processing lab, where his primary responsibility was to develop and print negatives. This lab was a significant facility, equipped to handle the processing and printing of various photos from film.
One fateful day, an incident led my father and some of his colleagues to decide to start their own business. They aimed to establish a new plant and manage it themselves, moving away from being mere employees. They named their venture KONIKA COLOUR LAB, with dreams of building a state-of-the-art facility.
However, as my father and his partners embarked on this ambitious project, they faced an unexpected betrayal. His friends, who were supposed to be his business partners, deceived him. Despite the shared vision and mutual efforts, my father found himself cheated and left alone to deal with the consequences.
To fund this dream, my father had taken a substantial loan, putting everything we had at stake. Unfortunately, due to the betrayal and ensuing financial struggles, we lost our home to the bank. The dream of opening a grand lab turned into a harsh reality of loss and hardship. Despite being completely devastated and homeless, we did not give up and persevered through our dire situation.
This difficult period in my life had a profound impact on me. Watching my father’s passion for photography and his dedication to his craft, despite the setbacks, inspired me deeply. It was amidst these challenges that my own love for photography began to take root, shaping my future in unexpected ways.
This version provides a more detailed and structured narrative of your father’s experience and its impact on your journey into photography. From this point, my journey into photography truly began. We decided to open a new studio, but our city was gradually transitioning to digital technology. Embracing this change, my father invested in a new computer. After school, I would spend countless hours practicing Photoshop. It was a period of intense self-study and dedication, as we didn’t have access to resources like YouTube to learn more about the software. Relying solely on my own skills and perseverance, I worked tirelessly.
After six months of hard work and self-practice, we finally opened our digital studio. Our family poured all our efforts into this new venture, and slowly but steadily, we began to see growth. The studio started to flourish as we remained committed to improving our craft and providing quality service to our clients.
Today, I am proud to say that I have gained substantial experience in photography and digital imaging. Our studio has grown, and I now have a dedicated team that shares my focus on delivering high-quality service. We have upgraded our equipment, and I often shoot with a mirrorless, full-frame camera. Personally, I prefer using Nikon cameras for their reliability and performance.
Our journey from the brink of despair to building a thriving studio is a testament to our perseverance and passion for photography. It has been a challenging yet rewarding path, and I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped me into the photographer I am today.
